Made In China: Trade Mission Seeks Out Opportunities in Asian Giant

Toronto, ON - August 4, 2004 – North American businesses will get the opportunity to see "Made In China" first hand this fall during a 15-day trade mission to the Asian powerhouse.

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters and PBB Global Logistics have joined together to co-sponsor the six-city tour that will run from October 24- November 9. Led by Perrin Beatty, President & CEO, CME and Michael D. Scott, President & CEO, PBB, the mission will focus on fostering new business relationships with both industry and government.

"China poses the biggest challenge industry in the western hemisphere," said CME President & CEO, Perrin Beatty. "But the glass is half full, not half empty. We must start to focus on the opportunity available in the Asian Tiger. With a population of 1.3 billion people, there is unprecedented market potential."

Items on the agenda include factory tours of Chinese manufacturing plants, business meetings with key government and industry stakeholders and VIP passes to China's largest trade fair - Canton Fair- in addition to the premier 10 + 1 China-ASEAN Expo.

Registering for the event will enable participants to benefit from significant cost savings. This six-city tour of the country includes deluxe travel, accommodations and leisure, while remaining the most cost-effective way to travel to China on business.

"With China's impending WTO deadline to remove several barriers to trade, many companies have been rushing to enter the Chinese market," said Michael D. Scott, PBB President & CEO. "However, what many haven't realized is that the key to success in China is relationships and PBB/CME's Trade & Technology Mission 2004 will help delegates leverage a vast client network that has been developed over 20 years of doing business in China."

Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters is run by business, for business. Its members account for 75% of Canada's industrial output and 90% of its exports. Over the past eight years, CME's members have been responsible for over 45% of the new jobs created in the Canadian economy.
