Trade
Security and Customs Compliance Initiatives
to be Highlighted at Executive Briefing
Series
Fort
Erie - August 30, 2002 -
PBB Global Logistics is conducting
a cross-continent seminar series to
provide traders at the executive level
with everything they need to know about
wide-reaching border initiatives on
trade security and Customs compliance.
The series was designed to help prepare
businesses that rely on international
supply chains who are facing radical
changes at the border. Some of these
changes, such as the Administrative
Monetary Penalty System (AMPS), have
been in the works for several years.
Others are relatively new, stemming
directly from the response to last
year's terrorist attacks.
"The
Canadian and U.S. governments are in their
final stages of implementing a multi-faceted
strategy to revamp their Customs operations," says
Tom Mountain, Executive Vice-President, PBB
Global Logistics. "Traders are beginning
to ask, 'What should I be doing now to prepare?'
These Executive Briefings will cover all bases."
With
over 50 years of combined experience, Mr. Mountain
and PBB's Jack Rafferty, Director, Trade & Regulatory
Services will share their expert insight into
a wide range of trade security and Customs
compliance initiatives. Mr. Mountain is a Certified
Professional Logistician (P.Log) and Chairman
of the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers.
Mr. Rafferty is a Director of the Northern
Border Customs Brokers Association and a member
of the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders
Association of America.
Following
last year's terrorist attacks and the subsequent
disruptions to international trade, the issue
of supply chain security has become a major
point of concern for the trading community.
New initiatives such as the Container Security
Initiative (CSI) and the Smart Border Declaration
signed between the U.S. and Canada are among
the policies that have gone a long way to increase
co-operation and improve security measures.
Specific trade security topics covered by the
seminars include Customs-Trade Partnership
Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), Free and Secure
Trade (FAST) and Partners in Protection (PIP).
Concurrent
with these security initiatives, the Canada
Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) is in the
final stages of implementing its Customs
Action Plan. Of particular concern to importers
and exporters is the full implementation
of AMPS on October 7, 2002. These seminars
will guide traders in reviewing their business
systems and procedures to ensure that they
are fully compliant with present and future
Customs requirements.
In
addition to AMPS, PBB's Executive Briefing
seminars cover important Customs compliance
topics such as Advance Commercial Information
(ACI), Customs Self -Assessment (CSA) and record
keeping.

seminars will be held across North America
