Softwood Lumber Agreement: Update
October 12, 2006
Canada's new softwood lumber export permit process was scheduled to start this morning.
Unconfirmed reports circulated earlier today that implementation of the new process may be delayed. There is no official confirmation yet. We are currently waiting for an update from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
In the meantime, we recommend that all Canadian softwood lumber exporters continue to follow the new process. You can obtain the Softwood Lumber Export Permit Cover Sheet here.
This permit request sheet with supporting shipment documentation should be faxed to our special Softwood Permit fax line at (514) 735-1932.
We'll provide further updates should the permit process actually be delayed, or if DFAIT announces any changes to their requirements.
Further information and updates are also available on DFAIT's web-site at www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca
