agricultural products to be removed from
BRASS
The following agricultural
products have been removed from the Border
Release Advanced Screening & Selectivity
(BRASS) system, effective September 24, 2004.
As a result, BRASS bar code labels can no longer
be used for U.S. Customs clearance. Instead,
paperwork must be faxed to the customs broker
well in advance of the shipment’s arrival at
the border.
No reason has been given
for the loss of BRASS privileges, however Customs
has hinted that the entire BRASS program may
eventually be phased out.
