PBB
President Receives Honorary Professorship
Mike Scott Bestowed Guangxi University Honor
during China Trade Mission
Nanning
Guangxi, China April 9, 2001 -
Mike Scott, President and CEO, PBB
Global Logistics, is the first Canadian
to be awarded an Honorary Professorship
at one of China's leading universities.
The honor, in recognition of PBB's
leadership facilitating trade with
Asia, was bestowed during a ceremony
held before two hundred students and
faculty at Guangxi University. It coincides
with the PBB-led China
Trade Mission 2001, now
visiting the country.
"It
is a great honor to receive a Professorship
at this leading institution of higher learning," Mr.
Scott says. "The designation is testament
to PBB's expertise and experience in China
and to the close ties we enjoy with our Chinese
partners."
The
Professorship was bestowed by Yu Jin, Party
Secretary, Guangxi University. Faculty and
senior students from the Business School
and Foreign Language Institute were also
on hand. During his acceptance speech, Mr.
Scott spoke of the importance of trade between
China and North America.
"For
two decades, PBB has been privileged to
do business in China. The value of progressive
trading relations is evidenced by the senior
executives that are part of China
Trade Mission 2001. Each is
eager to continue to build opportunities
that benefit both North America and China," he
said.
In
presenting the Professorship, Mr. Scott
and PBB were cited for leadership in fostering
trade with China. Among the notable achievements:
PBB's two privately-led trade missions
to China (2000 and 2001), a newly-opened
Beijing office, introduction of regularly
scheduled weekly consolidated shipping
services from China to North America and
PBB's hosting of several high level Chinese
trade delegations to North America.
Guangxi
University is the largest in the province
and home to some 15,000 students. It is
one of the first universities in China
to recruit foreign students, who now represent
an important part of the campus student
population. Since 1962, Guangxi University
has trained several hundred students from
40 countries in a wide variety of academic
subjects and qualifications.
PBB's China
Trade Mission 2001 arrived
in China April 6th. Mission delegates
include executives and corporate leaders
from a variety of North American small
and medium-sized enterprises seeking
to build important business relationships
and enhance existing opportunities in
China. The Mission has already visited

representatives and business leaders.
While
in Nanning, the group is conducting high-level
talks with private business leaders and
others. Delegates will also visit Shanghai,
Nanjing and Beijing prior to returning
home April 21st. The Mission, led by PBB,
